Terminal de ônibus in Curitiba (BR)

Ex-novo design of bus terminals below street level
In order to reorganize the dense vehicle traffic in the city centre, which makes it a mere junction, we thought of transforming Rua Nestor de Castor (Curitiba – Brazil) from a five-lane road being difficult to cross for pedestrians to a “longitudinal square”, a pedestrian area overlooked by historic and modern buildings. This allows the architectural and functional rehabilitation of the entire central area of the city. While private cars are diverted to other existing routes, public transport is the only one that will continue to serve this urban area, though traversing it below street level. In fact, just below the new “longitudinal square” a station terminus will be build for several bus lines (terminal de ônibus) coming from the north of the city.
